Lowestoft and Yarmouth RUFC Schools Program
L&Y have a thriving high school and primary schools program running at all four Lowestoft High Schools as well as high schools in Gorleston. The primary schools are mostly within Lowestoft.
The program is run under a separate non-profit making Community Interest Company called "Sunrise Sports" (owned by L&Y RFC) which is used to fund RFU-qualified coaches to go into local schools and introduce the game. It builds upon the work of the RFU 'All Schools Project' which the high schools have been part of over the last few seasons.
Each school has the Club Community Coach (ex Tongan International, Dave Tiueti) helping them with boys and girls rugby primarily in years 6-12.
This coaching program is supported with inter school fixtures held in both the Autumn and Spring Term at Gunton Park, home of L&Y RFC, using their excellent pitches and flood lights, when necessary. Often there will be age group tournaments featuring numerous local schools from across the region playing various levels of the game from abbreviated Tag to full contact XVs.
The aim of the program is to give children, who would not ordinarily have the chance to play rugby, the chance to play in after-school clubs and then in Intra and Inter school games.
We also hope to give them a point of contact to come and play rugby at the Rugby Club and to continue their rugby journey as part of the Great Rugby Family.
