Just what the doctor ordered! Lowestoft and Yarmouth I XV dispatch Norwich Medics

Following a staggering 114-7 win against Watton, Lowestoft and Yarmouth 1st XV welcomed Norwich Medics to Gunton Park where the home team looked for another impressive victory.

Lowestoft and Yarmouth set the tone for the game early on. After a period of sustained pressure, Alex Marshall was released on the left wing. He used his pace to breeze down the flank until he was stopped just shy of the try-line, however, the referee awarded L&Y with a penalty try for a high tackle, putting them seven points up.
7-0
L&Y refused to relent. Owen Rudd was passed the ball from the subsequent kick off and from 80 metres out, he made a dazzling run showing fantastic speed to skip away from a diving tackle giving him clear space to score beneath the posts. Harry Crannage slotted home the following conversion.
14-0
L&Y continued to torment the Medics' defence. After utilising the forwards for several phases, L&Y forced their way to within 10 metres of Medics' try line. L&Y then played the ball through the hands out wide where Frankie Stockman was played in to score. Harry Crannage once again converted for two.
21-0
Norwich Medics found themselves with a line-out just over 5 metres away from their own try line. After a scramble for the ball, L&Y stole possession and were suddenly on the front foot. Kian Cook ran the ball hard, taking L&Y inches away from scoring, Danny Burnett then took the ball himself and forced his way over the try-line. Harry Crannage was successful in converting for a further two points.
28-0
It didn’t take long for L&Y to score again. L&Y had the ball 20 metres out, Harry Crannage passed it to Rei Haare who broke through a tackle before offloading it to Owen Rudd. He then carried the ball further up the pitch before depositing the ball back to Rei Haare who produced a sensational one handed off-load to the onrushing Harry Norman who finished off a spectacular L&Y move. Harry Crannage added a further two points for L&Y.
35-0
Norwich Medics began to grow into the game, after some big carries they found themselves on the front foot. Harry Norman executed a last ditch tackle, successfully thwarting an almost certain try. L&Y showed more tenacity in defence by turning the ball over mere inches from their try-line and clearing the ball back deep into Medics’ territory. After successfully weathering the storm, L&Y once again found themselves with the forward momentum. L&Y opted to take a quick line out in a bid to catch Medics off guard and after a plethora of phases they spun the ball out to the left wing where Louis Smedley showed great feet to dance round a defender, opening up room for him to score. Harry Crannage converted once again.

Half-time 42-0

L&Y maintained their intensity in the second half. Harry Norman got the half started with a fabulous line break, carrying the ball from halfway to within 10 metres of the Medics’ try-line. The ball was then played out towards Joe Brighty who delayed his pass, drawing in the defender, before playing it to Josh Allard who attacked the space and opened the scoring for the second half. Harry Crannage successfully converted for L&Y.
49-0
After a brilliant defensive scrum, L&Y were awarded a penalty and following a successful kick to touch, had a line out around 10 metres out. L&Y were then awarded another penalty and once again chose the lineout option, this one only 5 metres out. After successfully winning the ball, L&Y chose to maul their way over the try-line where Alfie Tiffen grounded it for his first try of the day.
54-0
Norwich Medics were awarded a penalty however they were unable to capitalise after Toby Mancini prevented the ball from going out of play with a fabulous catch. L&Y quickly worked the ball up the pitch through a kick and after a loose pass from Medics, found themselves in possession of the ball. Alfie Tiffen then received the ball from Harry Crannage and shot through a gap in Medics’ defence to score his second.
59-0
L&Y were quick to score another try; Josh Allard spotted a gap in the defensive line and used his pace and power to carry the ball from inside his own half to Medics’ 22. He then passed the ball to Thomas Huggins who continued to progress the ball forwards before offloading it to Toby Mancini who burst away from the last defender to score. Harry Crannage scored an additional two points following the conversion.
66-0
From kick off, Owen Rudd once again demonstrated fantastic speed and strength to shake off a handful of tackles and carry the ball from within his own half to 10 metres out from Medics’ try-line. Harry Crannage then performed a cross field kick that bounced into the arms of Fin Rearie who pirouetted away from one tackle and then produced a lovely step inside to open up the space for him to score.
73-0
L&Y were awarded a penalty 5 metres out. Alfie Tiffen tapped the ball and went himself, using his strength to muscle his way over the try line to secure his hat trick. Harry Crannage comfortably slotted the conversion.
80-0
Following a successful line-out on the half way line, Rei Haare forced his way through several tackles before offloading the ball to Kian Cook who took the ball even further up the pitch. L&Y then used their width exceptionally well, finding Louis Smedley on the right wing. He injected his pace onto the ball and demonstrated great footwork to score in the corner.
85-0
L&Y once again showed fantastic grit and determination in defence and despite a substantial amount of pressure, their try line remained firmly locked and they were eventually awarded a scrum. From the subsequent scrum, Harry Norman took the ball down the blind side before passing to Frankie Stockman. He then produced an inch perfect grubber kick through to Louis Smedley who caught the ball in stride and scored for his hat trick. Harry Crannage followed up with a successful conversion.
92-0
L&Y continued their dominance of the game. Toby Mancini was unlucky not to score after being stopped just short of the try-line however the ball was quickly passed out to Rei Haare who had far too much strength to be stopped and he added even more points to the tally. Harry Crannage then converted to bring L&Y within one point of a century.
99-0
There was still time for L&Y to score one more try. Following a good line break by Joe Brighty, L&Y had the ball on Medics’ 22. They then played the ball through the hands where Owen Rudd carried the ball forward before passing to Alfie Tiffen who was free to run the ball over the line for his fourth try of the day. Louis Smedley then converted, which ended up being the last action of the game.

Full-time 106-0

It was another great day at Gunton Park, with another fantastic result for Lowestoft and Yarmouth 1st XV who are unbeaten since October. The two man of the match awards were given to Danny Burnett and Harry Norman.
